Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman came off the bench to score as Atalanta thrashed Sturm Graz 5-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday, ending their five-match winless streak.

Atalanta were under pressure to win, having failed to secure a victory in their previous five matches. In the same vein, Sturm Graz needed a win to boost their playoff qualification hopes.

Atalanta made a blistering start, with in-form striker Mateo Retegui scoring in the 12th minute before he was replaced by Lookman at halftime who went on to display a fine performance to seal the win.

The second half was a goal-scoring spree, with Mario Pasalic and Charles De Ketelaere scoring within five minutes to put the game beyond Sturm Graz’s reach. Lookman then got in on the act, heading in a precise cross from De Ketelaere to extend Atalanta’s lead.

Lookman turned provider soon after, beating a couple of defenders before setting up Brescianini, who calmly slotted in Atalanta’s fifth goal to wrap up the impressive win.

The resounding victory propelled Atalanta to third place in the standings with 14 points from seven matches, just one point adrift of Monaco. Although the win is a significant step forward, it does not guarantee automatic qualification.

Next up for Atalanta is a trip to face Como, led by Cesc Fàbregas, as they seek to bounce back from recent disappointing results in the league.
