Lazio coach Marco Baroni singled out Fisayo Dele-Bashiru for praise after his commanding performance in their 3-1 Europa League victory over Ajax in Amsterdam, describing the Nigerian midfielder as “remarkable.”

Dele-Bashiru, who scored Lazio’s second goal, played a key role in a match where Loum Tchaouna and Pedro also found the net, helping the Biancocelesti retain top spot in their group.

The Lazio manager praised the 23-year-old for this physicality and good technique for the Italina side.

“Dele-Bashiru comes from a different football where he doesn’t need as much focus. His physicality is devastating and he has good technique, but where he needs to improve and he is doing that is matching the speed of his brain to his legs. When he does that, he becomes really a remarkable midfielder,” Baroni said after the match.

Baroni also emphasised the importance of giving young players opportunities to grow, insisting that high-stakes games are the best way for them to develop.

“We have to play them and they learn by making mistakes too. There’s no better way to learn than by playing matches at this level. The more important games we play, it means we are raising the bar,” Baroni added.

Lazio’s victory made them only the seventh Italian team to win at the Johan Cruijff ArenA, a venue where Ajax had scored 12 goals and conceded none in their previous three European home matches.
