In an exciting development for Nigerian football, 18-year-old striker Edokpolor Peter Osayande has secured a long-term contract with Primeira Liga side, Benfica, following his transfer from Galadima Football Club.
Osayande’s journey to Benfica began in Abuja, where he was scouted last year while playing for Galadima Football Club. His impressive performances caught the attention of Benfica’s scouting team, who subsequently invited him for a trial period.
Osayande’s talent and potential shone through during his trial, convincing Benfica to offer him a long-term contract.
As part of his integration into the club, Osayande will initially join Benfica’s U23 side in a strategic move aimed to ease him into the team’s setup, providing a platform for him to hone his skills, gain valuable experience, and adapt to the club’s playing style.

Supporters are eagerly anticipating Osayande’s progress, hoping that the club’s esteemed coaching staff can mold him into a complete striker. Osayande’s inspiration will undoubtedly come from Benfica’s illustrious history of producing talented strikers, including Darwin Nunez, now at Liverpool, and Goncalo Ramos, currently at PSG.
As Osayande begins his journey with Benfica’s U23 team, he will be eager to make an immediate impact and help the team improve their current standing in the championship round of the U23 Liga Revelação.
With two draws and two losses, the team is currently seventh in the table, and Osayande’s arrival is expected to bring a fresh injection of energy and talent to the squad.
